Exam Details

Praxis I (Pre-Professional Skills Test (PPST))

The Praxis I Pre-Professional Skills Tests (PPST) measure basic skills in reading, writing and mathematics and include multiple-choice questions and an essay question on the Writing test.

Reading Test: This test measures the ability to understand, analyze and evaluate written messages.

Mathematics Test: This test measures mathematical skills and concepts

Writing Test: This test assesses the ability to use grammar and language appropriately and to communicate effectively in writing.

Colleges and universities may use the Praxis I tests to evaluate individuals for entry into teacher education programs.

Praxis II (Subject Tests)

Praxis II test measures the knowledge of specific subjects that K–12 educators will teach, as well as general and subject-specific teaching skills and knowledge.

This test is commonly taken by candidates entering the teaching profession as part of teacher licensing and certification process required by many states.

Praxis II Test Details

The Praxis II tests are offered in paper-based format only and the tests are 1,2 or 4 hrs long and include multiple-choice questions, essay or constructed-response questions, or a combination of both question types and these Praxis II subject Assessments include over 120 different tests ranging from Agriculture to World and U.S History.

Praxis II test consists of 3 group of tests

1. Subject Assessments : This measures general and subject-specific teaching skills and knowledge.

2. Principles of Learning and Teaching (PLT) Tests : This measures general pedagogical knowledge at 4 grade levels:- Early Childhood, K–6, 5–9 and 7–12.

3. Teaching Foundations Tests : This measures pedagogy in 5 areas: multi-subject (elementary), English, Language Arts, Mathematics, Science and Social Science.
