Introduction :

An IBM Certified Operator - Tivoli Storage Manager V5.5 is an experienced storage Operator for the IBM Tivoli Storage Manager V5.5 product and it is one of the entry level certification available from IBM.

Certification Overview :

This individual has extensive operational experience of storage management, specifically operational experience common in IBM Tivoli Storage Manager V5.5 release. This Operator is capable of performing the operational tasks related to monitoring TSM operations, managing TSM client and server functions, interpreting configurations, and basic troubleshooting.

Key Areas of Competency include the below

1. Describe IBM Tivoli Storage Manager's concepts of backup and restore
2. Explain the technical storage management requirements including schedules, devices and basic communication requirements
3. Identify and operate the components of the IBM Tivoli Storage Manager environment
4. Monitor IBM Tivoli Storage Manager operations, clients and server functions
5. Interpret IBM Tivoli Storage Manager configurations
6. Perform basic IBM Tivoli Storage Manager troubleshooting

Pre-requisites

1. Experience and knowledge of IBM Tivoli Storage Manager V5.5 

2. Hands-on experience as an IBM Tivoli Storage Manager V5.5 operator

Understanding of backup methodologies (incremental, selective, image, progressive, on-site, off-site, etc.) 

3. Basic operating systems knowledge and networking knowledge (LAN, SAN, WAN) 

4. Basic storage device knowledge (disk, tape, NAS, etc.) and problem determination skill
