Introduction:
A+ Certification is developed and sponsored by the Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA), a global association of IT industry companies with the common goal of standardized qualifications for professionals working in the industry.
Objective of A+ certification Exam:
A+ certification is designed specifically for the professionals working in computer hardware and software support field.
Achievement of A+ Certification shows that a person has the knowledge, technical and customer service skills necessary to successfully support PC equipment and users.
Technical Expectations: A+ Certified Professional
An A+ Certified Professional is usually expected to carry out the following tasks:
Installation and setup, Upgrading, Repairs, Troubleshooting, Maintenance of desktops, laptops, printers, and all other peripherals. Plus, needed to fully understand the network configurations and operating systems users might be utilizing. And also the setup, training of users in the use of systems, as well as Software related tasks.
Software related responsibilities may include: installation of software packages, upgrade and update of software, troubleshoot application and system errors, advice users on software use, train users, writing of training/user manuals, overseeing PC usage and so on.
An Overview of A+ Certification Exam:
The certification exams are computer based, and conducted by Sylvan Prometric and
VUE testing centers.
The A+ test is available throughout the world in English, Spanish, French, German, and Japanese.
The A+ certification exam was updated in late 2006.
The new A+ exam has been redesigned to have a 30% pass rate.
A+ certification requires two tests to be passed: the A+ Essentials(220-601) exam and a choice of
one of three elective exams namely:
IT Technician(220-602)
Remote Support Technician(220-603) or
Depot Technician(220-604)
Both of these tests must be passed in order to receive A+ certification . CompTIA suggests that one take the A+ Essentials exam before the other, but they can be taken in either order.
The CompTIA A+ Essentials consists of 100 questions, and the elective consists of 90 questions. A passing score on the CompTIA A+ Essentials exam is 675, on any of the electives is 700.
Both CompTIA A+ Essentials(220-601) and A+ IT Technician(220-602) exams will cover hardware and software with added elements of security and soft skills , as well as safety and environmental issues.
